“Klapperschlange” – The steam locomotive for the reconstruction
With around 2.120 build locomotives worldwide which were delivered to the United States Army Transportation Corps –USATC, the steam locomotive series S160 is one of the most constructed locomotive in the world.
Because of this tick-tacking-sound of the steering mechanism the locos got their nickname „rattlesnake“. With the invasion of the Allies in France in June 1944, the S160 also came to continental Europe. There they served for refreshing the supply of troop and after the war for the reconstruction. Many models found their use in different state railway companies up until the 70’s….
